About

Established in 1922 as the Georgian Polytechnic Institute,Georgian Technical University (GTU)stands as a leading institution in engineering and technology within Georgia and the South Caucasus.  The first lecture was read by the world famous Georgian mathematician Professor Andria Razmadze.  GTU has been an activemember of the European University Association (EUA) since 2001and became part of theBologna Process in 2005, aligning its educational framework with European standards.

The university offers168 academic programsacross all three levels of higher education, distributed among13 faculties:

GTU provides awide range of academic opportunities, including73 Bachelor's programs(one of which is an integrated Veterinary program),58 Master's programs, 36 PhD programs, and aGeorgian language training program. Additionally, it offers27 Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs. Through its partnership withSokendai University in Japan, GTU supports young scholars in pursuing PhD degrees inNuclear Physics.

The university'sresearch infrastructureconsists of15 Scientific-Research Institutesand12 laboratories. Its workforce includes325 administrative personnel, 1,332 academic staff, 773 faculty members, and676 research institute employees. GTU is home toGeorgia’s second-largest library, housing1,797,012 books, 49,151 e-books, and500,000 scientific journals. Over the last five years, its researchers have secured76 national and 7 international patents.

GTU actively collaborates with world-renowned research institutions, such asCERN (Switzerland)(experiments CMS and ATLAS),KEK (Japan)(experiment COMPET),Fermilab (USA)(experiment DUNA),Julich Research Center (Germany), INFN (Italy), andHelmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf (Germany).

The university is highly involved innational and international research funding programs, participating in grants from theShota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, Horizon Europe, NATO, USAID, and other major funding bodies.
