The University of Lleida was created in 1991 by the Parliament of Catalonia. It is located in the West of Catalonia and is organized based on a model of campus distributed throughout the city of Lleida and, also, since 2018 in the city of Igualada. The University offers official undergraduate, master’s and doctoral studies in all fields of knowledge, bringing together a figure close to 10,000 students and 1,850 graduates and an employment rate of 80%, according to data from the Ministry of Education. The teaching model of the University combines teaching-learning activities in a face-to-face, semi-face-to-face and virtual format, endorsed by the Agency for the Quality of the University System of Catalonia. By 2020, the University has 818 full-time equivalent professors and 537 full-time administration and services staff. The 2020 budget is 96.3 million euros. The quality of the results achieved in the RDI can be seen from the 818 publications in Web of Science (2019) and the 68 highly cited publications belonging to 11 areas of the ESI, which are aligned with the strategic areas of specialization of research (agri-food, biomedicine, technology and sustainability, and social and territorial development). The commitment of the University of Lleida to the territorial development of its environment based on the knowledge economy is materialized through the “Campus Iberus” project, distinguished as a Campus of International Excellence and shared with the University of Zaragoza, the Rioja and the Public of Navarre. In addition, the University also contributes to the dissemination and diversification of the cultural offer of its environment with the promotion of cultural activities that are based on the knowledge generated by its researchers
Likewise, favoured by the fact of being located in an intermediate city, the UdL keeps a close contact with the associative network, which contributes to deploy its social function based on commitment and social responsibility also a distinctive feature of it.
