About

The University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) is dedicated to world-class research and teaching and is an enabler of science-driven innovation. We offer excellent study conditions and career opportunities. Our University emerged from joining the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (TUK, University of Kaiserslautern) and the University in Landau at the beginning 2023. Due to the systematic of THE ranking, we here provide data for the former TUK.

The University has more than more than 20,000 students, 3,000 employees and 300 professors. Those who study, do research and work with us experience a cosmopolitan environment and shape the future. RPTU's research profile focuses on natural and engineering sciences and integrates aspects of planning, social, economic, environmental, and educational sciences. From the broad wealth of our excellent research, seven strategic research fields have been defined. RPTU’s researchers are currently engaged in five collaborative research centers funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), which are among the most prestigious research programs in Germany.

In our sixteen departments, we offer more than 160 degree programs, all organized in consecutive fully accredited Bachelor's/Master's programs. RPTU is also an expert in teacher education and teacher professional development. In addition, the University places great emphasis on excellent graduate and Ph.D. training. In particular, RPTU offers several international and national Ph.D. programs funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Furthermore, RPTU's Distance and Independent Studies Center (DISC) is one of the largest providers of postgraduate distance learning programs in Germany.

A number of top research institutes are located on site, such as the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems, the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics, the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, and the Leibniz Institute for Composite Materials. All institutes have been initiated by the University.
